As the human population grows, so too the infestations of parasitic bugs that thrive on the human body. In fact, contrary to what some believe, head lice, body louse and pubic crab infestations are not exchanged by other mammals but are species specific to humans, and humans only. How to get rid of lice has never been easy, and it seems to be getting even more complex. It is not that long ago that we thought we could throw away our head lice combs or nit combs in favor of the new lice treatment products. Lice can be spread by close personal contact with an infested person. The treatment for and eradication of body lice requires thorough washing of all clothing, bedding and body. Standard laundry detergent with hot water setting and the hottest drying setting should do the trick. Wash and dry body with unused soap and a clean or new towel. It was concluded that that a hot wash would take care of any head lice and nits found on bedding, soft toys or clothing. 15 minutes in a dryer would also spell certain death to the wee nasties, in the highly unlikely event they would leave the head in the first place. Breaking the head louse's life cycle is the most important part of destroying and eventually getting rid of the infestation. Breaking the life cycle will cause the number of lice to remain steady for a while and this gives you an opportunity to attack.
